GRIMSBY ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN CHURCHWords from the sermon given by Metropolitan John on the occasion of his enthronement: September 2008 "True
Christian life consists in embarking on the adventure of transformation
of the self. It also consists in the inclination of the heart, the call
for renewal inside the church, and in serving the people in whom He has
chosen to dwell. This is what led me to choose the monastic life that
marked the essence of my existence. For the monk does not live for
himself, but for the world, in God. Although I am bishop, I remain a
monk and will live only for my diocese and the people that I am asked
by our Lord to care for." | What is this Church? The Community of St Marina and St Kenelm is part of the one, worldwide Orthodox Christian Church. It shares its traditions and forms of worship with millions of other Orthodox Christians in Britain and around the world. The Priest is Fr Michael Harry who is also the Priest of the Othodox Church of St Aethelheard in Louth. He started holding services in Grimsby, originally at the Ice House, in June 2004 and for the following five years the growing Community was dependent on the hospitality of various churches in Grimsby. In 2009 however the opportunity came to start using one of the Chapels in the Grimsby Cemetery off Scartho Road. Many kind people were instrumental in this, and it was with great joy that the Community became key holders in October. The Grimsby and Louth Communities form part of the Antiochian Orthodox Deanery of the United Kingdom and Ireland, and their bishop is His Eminence Metropolitan John. The members of both Communities came together in November 2008 to welcome Metropolitan John on his first visit to the area as Archbishop. Some of the members of the Louth and Grimsby Communities Worship is at the heart of every Orthodox community, and everyone will be working to make the new home of the Community of St. Marina and St. Kenelm a place of beauty and reverence. As the Apostle Philip said to Nathanael, "Come and See". | ![]() Icon of the Holy Apostles ![]() Fr Michael with His Eminence Metropolitan John on his visit to Louth ![]() The first Liturgy in the new building was held on the Feast of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple |
